What is RSS?
RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication,” and is a popular way for websites to syndicate (distribute) their content. First Baptist Church publishes content
in an RSS feed. When you subscribe to an RSS feed, you can receive that content as soon as it’s published, without the need to visit this website. If you subscribe to our weekly sermon RSS feed, for instance,
the weekly sermon will automatically be sent to you each week. Subscribing to an RSS feed is free.
How do I read an RSS feed?
To read an RSS feed you’ll need to use a program that can receive and read RSS. Some email programs (such as Thunderbird) have the ability to read RSS feeds built-in, and there are programs available to add
RSS-reading capability to other email programs like Outlook. However, many people use programs called RSS readers to manage and read their RSS subscriptions. There are many RSS readers available for all
computer platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.), like iTunes and many of them are free.
Others use browser based RSS readers. One of the most popular is Firefox (we highly recommend this browser over Internet Explorer for a number of reasons). Firefox has a number of ways to read RSS feeds,
including Sage, which is very highly rated.
So how do I subscribe to an AiG RSS feed?
Subscribing to a First Baptist Church RSS feed is fairly straightforward:
Set up a program to read RSS feeds (see “How do I read an RSS feed?” above for details on doing this).
Create a new channel in your RSS reader program with the URL of the feed to which you’d like to subscribe. Each RSS reader program has its own way of subscribing to a feed, so follow the instructions for whichever program you’re using.
The URL for our sermons is: http://www.fbclol.org/media/rss2.xml
That’s it! Once you’ve created your new channel, you are subscribed to that feed and will receive new content automatically whenever it is posted.
To subscribe using iTunes:
- Select and copy the URL (page address) of your choice. (Windows = Ctrl+C)
- Minimize your browser and open iTunes.
- Go to the "advanced" menu and click on "subscribe to podcast."
- Paste the URL or page address you copied into the box and click OK. (Windows = Ctrl+V)
- You will see a list of items under a main podcast category. By default, only the first item will download. Double click the podcast that has downloaded and enjoy! Click on the "+" sign of other listed podcasts to download them.
- You may configure iTunes to automatically download any new podcasts in a given category upon launch of iTunes.
